Spaces in filenames cause problems on some operating systems, servers, and download platforms. They get encoded as %20 in URLs, which makes links look broken and can cause download errors on older systems. Underscores and hyphens are universally safe alternatives.

What date format is best for video filenames?

YYYYMMDD (e.g. 20241215) is the most reliable. Files sort in chronological order automatically when you use this format. Avoid DD/MM/YYYY formats as the slashes are illegal characters in filenames on most systems.

Should I include the couple's full names or just surnames?

Surnames only is standard practice. Full names make filenames unnecessarily long and can create issues with character limits on some systems. Smith_Jones is clear, searchable, and keeps filenames at a manageable length.

Do I need different filenames for ProRes and H.264 versions?

Yes. Use a suffix like _MASTER for ProRes archive files and leave H.264 delivery files without a suffix, or add _DELIVERY. This makes it immediately obvious which file is the client copy and which is the archive. The generator includes ProRes master options in the deliverables list.

Should I include version numbers in filenames?

Yes, during the revision process. Use v1, v2, v3 suffixes while revisions are in progress. Once the client approves a final version, rename it to _Final and delete or archive the earlier versions to avoid confusion.
